Reflections on Allah’s Names and Attributes

Dear respected Muslim:

Please consider the following information pertaining to Allah the Most High as He related about Himself in the Noble Quran in the end of chapter #59, AlHashr:

He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. (22)

He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. (23)

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (24)

Allah is the One and Only True God, Creator, Owner and Sustainer of Everything.

The right of Allah on His creation is that they worship him alone in every sense and do not supplicate anyone else in what they have no power over.  All aspects of worship, such as prayer, fasting, sacrifice and pilgrimage, should be directed solely to Him. Whoever knowingly worships other than Allah has associated partners with the Majestic One, thereby destroying all his or her good deeds and exposing him or herself to the hellfire. Examples of things wrongly worshipped other than Allah are prophets, people, celestial bodies, animals, etc…

Allah is the Knower of the Unseen and the Seen. He knows everything that we can observe and everything that we cannot observe, and no one knows the mysteries of the universe except Him.  It is incumbent on people to know that Allah is aware of their thoughts, intentions and all that they do, and act accordingly.

Allah is the Most Beneficent and Most Merciful.  His mercy encompasses everything and prevails over his wrath.  He has reserved 99% of His mercy for the afterlife and sent down one part to this Earth for all the creation.  All people should work for the Mercy of Allah by doing what He commands us to do, refraining from what He prohibits, and never losing hope in His Mercy no matter what they have done in the past.

Allah is the Owner of the Earth and skies, because He owns all that He has created.  People should remember that they are all creations of Allah and should revere and respect Him and his commandments accordingly.

Allah is the Most Holy One and the Origin of Peace.  His self, speech and actions are Exalted from any type of deficiency or imperfection. He is nothing like His creations and can never be compared to them.  He is the Self-Sufficient and Ever-Living.  He provides food for all and none can provide anything for Him. He provides true safety, security, and psychological wellbeing for all of those that choose to align themselves with His divine will. All those who run towards Him find peace and tranquility in this life and the next.  He removes sadness from people’s hearts. He is the Beginner and to Him return all affairs. He rules with justice and does as he pleases. He is the Irresistible, above all His creation. Everyone should accept all that he has enjoined in divine law, such as prayer, charity, fasting, hajj, and to refrain from major sins. We should also accept the challenges that He has decreed for us, such as death, sickness, and war.  If a person accepts Allah’s commandments and his challenges, then Allah will be pleased with him, and if a person is dissatisfied with these, then Allah will be dissatisfied with him.

Allah is unique, has never taken a son, nor has He ever had any partners or equals in His Kingdom.  Whoever has ascribed any partners to Him has implied that Allah is deficient, and His lordship is incomplete, and that is the biggest sin.

Allah is the Proud One because his attributes are complete and His being is exalted.  Humans have no right to arrogance or undue pride, because they are finite creations who are prone to ignorance, sickness, and death.

Allah created people, the Earth, the Universe, and all that is in it.  He gave each thing its distinct makeup, composition, and purpose.  He created all of us, gave us our souls, vision, hearing, and feeling.  People should dedicate their lives in gratitude to the one that blessed them with so much to be thankful for.
