Allah’s Speech

Part of the foundation of Islamic faith is the belief that Allah either directly spoke or revealed his speech to some people who became prophets. This divine speech was revealed to the Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, memorized and written down by his companions. It is known as the Quran, or the Book of Allah. To believe in the Quran means to believe that it’s from Allah and it indicates Allah’s commands and preferences and, thus, act accordingly. Past revelations of this nature were named the Torah, Injeel, Psalms, and Scriptures.

Allah says in the Quran:

O you who have believed, believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Book that He sent down upon His Messenger and the Scripture which He sent down before. And whoever disbelieves in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day has certainly gone far astray (4:136)

Regarding the Torah, Allah says in the Quran:

Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in it is guidance and light. (5:44)

Referring to the Injeel, or Gospel of Jesus, Allah says in Quran:

And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous. (5:46)

Allah says refers to the Quran in the Quran itself:

There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book by which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and, by His permission, brings them out from darknesses into the light and guides them to a straight path. (5:15-16)

All the books that Allah sent were true lights of guidance, explanation, healing, and mercy for all of mankind.  However, there have been changes to all the previous books. As for the Quran, it is the final revelation which has been divinely preserved by the memorization and transcription of millions of devotees.  Allah says about it:

Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.  (15:9)

And We have revealed to you the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. (5:48)

Although all the past revelations and divine scriptures agreed regarding the principles of faith and main religious practices, some of the laws and commandments differed.  This is because people’s capacities and situations differed from time to time.

Allah says in the Quran:

We prescribed a law and a method for each of you (5:48)

And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghut" (16:36)

O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous (2:183)

And for all peoples We have appointed a rite [of sacrifice] that they may mention the name of Allah over what He has provided for them of animals (22:34)

Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses and Abraham, who fulfilled his obligations that no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another and that there is not for man except that for which he strives (53:36-39)

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and His pleasure. Marks are on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah and their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward (48:29)

Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties in exchange for Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. It is a true and binding promise in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? So, rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And that is the great victory. (9:111)

And We have already written in the book of Psalms after the mention that the Earth is inherited by My righteous servants. (21:105)
